KOGI STATE AND IT'S BACKWARDNESS ~AHMED A OCHUDA
Kogi state is situated in the central region ( middle belt) of Nigeria, it is popularly known as the confluence state because of the the meeting point of river Niger and Benue at it capital Lokoja.
That is where Lord Lugard's wife coined the name Niger- Area popularly known today as Nigeria.
Lokoja was the first capital of British Northern Nigeria protectorate, the chief of Lokoja as of then is chief muhammadu makarifi.
Lokoja remain a convenient Administrative town for the British government after the amalgamation of Northern Nigeria in 1914.
To make the story brief, Kogi state alone has a total deposit of 26 mineral resources in a commercial quantity, if Kogi must move forward then this following factors must be considered.
Socio-cultural re-orientationignorance and inexperience leaders, we kogite don't really know what we have, and we dont have the abilities to apply those resources in order to get expected results, furthermore there is need for socio-cultural re-orientation, it is true that our valued system has collapse? for this reason, we need re-orientatation to bring back our desire result in our state and to know what we have and the ability to use them.
Kogi is a state blessed in all ramification ranging from different forms of mineral resource just like limestone, Coal, Gold, which we have in a commercial quantity. and also many resources mention but few, so, I ask what is now the problem? Our major problem is corruption, thing wont go well until we eschew corruption, because if corruption is not maintain or combated, we can not develop.
corruption is a social cancer that people don't longer steal in thousand nor million but now is in billions, if kogi must grow we must learn how to appreciate the place of vision. Vision here means ability to see ahead of time not today.
Vision is what make American country to become so great since when they gain independent around 1776, any country that is not thinking ahead will never go ahead, the reason why we are backward is that we and some of our leaders don't have vision for kogi state, the ability to pencil down the vision and the ability to vote in the leaders that will make it a reality.
Moreover, Kogi is one of the heart of Nigeria as Nigeria is said to be the giant of Africa, so i'm using this opportunity to admonish the Nigeria government to stick with their campaign promises in revertalizing and restructuring Ajaokuta oil and steel company because one day oil will definitely finish and we will fall back to what we have been neglecting for all this year, Ajaokuta is blessecan feed the whole of Africa.
Kogi is bound by ten state, mongo park is a tourist center but not functioning immigration office still in a rented apartment, kogi is richer than many African country baby but our leaders don't have sight enough to see.
