[VIDEO] BREAKING : PASSENGERS THROWN INTO PANIC AS A SUSPECTED LUNATIC CLIMBED INTO THE ENGINE OF AZMAN AIR FLIGHT
A suspected lunatic on Friday morning climbed into the engine of AZMAN Air flight at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, throwing passengers into panic and disrupting flight schedule.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that suspected lunatic climbed a Port Harcourt-bound AZMAN flight with No: 5NHAI, shouting: “I want to go to Accra”.
When DAILY NIGERIAN correspondent contacted the AZMAN’s assistant general manager, Nuraddeen Aliyu, said the intruder was suspected to have scaled up the airport fencing as a result of inadequate security around the fencing.
According to him, the flight had already got a take-off order before the suspected lunatic was sighted climbing the engine.
“When the captain sighted the lunatic, he had to turn off the engine and alert the control tower.
After a while, the airport security came and arrested the man,” Mr Aliyu pointed out.
However, the AZMAN’s assistant general manager stated that the suspected lunatic had been handed over to the airport authority for appropriate action.
Henrietta Yakubu, General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, who confirmed the development to newsmen said the man had been arrested.
According to Mrs Yakubu, the stowaway was arrested by Aviation Security Personnel and was taken to Tango City, a FAAN security unit domiciled at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja.
One of the passengers on board, who could not hide her frustration over the development, took to her Instagram handle to look for help.
The Instagram user, simply identified as mamajaviation, said: “For real??? This is serious?? Guys this is an emergency o. For 30 minutes we have been stuck at the runway at MMIA by an unidentified man who ran to the aircraft with a bag.
“Security has not shown up and everyone is panicking. I have so many questions to ask but right now I can’t even breathe. Pls, share this to all relevant authorities.”
Another Instagram user who is simply identified as Osukue attributed the development to, “poor perimeter fencing and lack of CCTV /motion sensors around the airport.”
“The security would have spotted him if these devices are in place and managed properly,” the user said.
