The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Wednesday, refused to grant the motion filed by Mr Omoyele Sowore, Convener, #RevolutionNow protests, challenging his detention for 45 days by the Department of State Security. Justice Nkeonye Maya, who declined all applications by Counsel to Sowore, Mr Femi Falana, SAN, sent the case back to Justice Taiwo for further hearing. Falana, who had asked the court to set aside the ex parte order granted by Justice Taiwo, also applied for oral bail when Justice Maha rejected the earlier application. period to enable the DSS to carry out and conclude its investigation on allegations levied against him. A group within the ruling All Progressives Congress in Kogi state named APC Justice Forum/Buhari Support groups has called on the party leadership to disqualify Governor Yahaya Bello over alleged double registration for the permanent voters’ cards. In a statement, which was signed and made available to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday by the Forum’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Atekojo Samson Usman, he said, the essence of the screening was to ensure that the party did not field a candidate that would be a subject of litigation. The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District,  Senator Dino Melaye, on Friday described the ruling of the Kogi West National Assembly/State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal nullifying his victory in the March 22 election and ordering a fresh election as a total miscarriage of justice. In a statement, he said his legal team was already studying the judgement, adding that he would appeal it. The senator representing Kogi west senatorial district at the Senate, Senator Dino Melaye has been sacked by the National Assembly/state Assembly election petition tribunal. Our source reports that Melaye, who was a candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was declared winner in the February 23 election by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Dissatisfied by the declaration, Senator Smart Adeyemi, who was the candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) approached the tribunal, challenging Melaye’s victory, citing, irregularities, over voting and non compliance with the electoral acts. The three man panel led by Justice A. O. Chijioke in a unanimous judgment on Friday, August 23, accepted Adeyemi’s ground and order for re-election into the senatorial axis.

The Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja, on Monday, ended the prejudgment proceeding on the consolidated petition by Natasha Akpoti of SDP and Ahmed Ogembe of PDP against Yakubu Oseni of APC. While defending his petition, the Counsel to Natasha Akpoti of SDP, Ayo Asala (SAN), adopted his final written address and the arguments therein. On Monday, August 5th, a Kaduna State High Court,  granted the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky leave to go to India for medical treatment. Police had tightened security in the Kaduna metropolis ahead of the hearing of the bail application of the IMN leader and his wife, Zeenat. The couple have been in detention since 2015. The couple told the court through the application that they were battling ailments that could not be treated in Nigeria, such as heavy metal poisoning caused by pellets of gunshots in their body. Their lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), argued the application before Justice Darius Khobo on July 29, 2019.
