Kogi Poll: The Level Of Poverty In Kogi State Is Astronomically High And Politically Embarrassing, Engr. Musa Wada Speak On Economy & Poverty Alleviation
Poverty is one of the forces militating against the social and economic development of Kogi state. The level of poverty in Kogi state is astronomically high and politically embarrassing.Ending poverty in Kogi state will entail improving the state's economic productivity and opportunities for its citizens, this will mean investing in human capital potential and creating jobs for women and young people, increasing financial access and opportunities to these groups in rural communities and advancing technological innovation.
Kogi State is ranked one of the poorest state in Nigeria. One of the low-hanging fruits would be to embrace educational reforms that focus on developing new skills through robust and well funded technical and vocational education and training programs for thousands of Kogites outsides the formal school system, or who posses only a primary education. Unlocking private-sector partnership through incentives and social impacts bonds as well as boosting entrepreneurial ecosystem (with strong emphasis on apprenticeship) are key ways government can help to spur growth, as has been proven in other places.
Kogi State is blessed in all ramifications but we just need one sincere man (or woman) to steer the ship of state in the right direction. Effective deployment of a well thought out Infrastructural Development Plan. This is a State that boast of a huge number of intellectuals and mineral resources.
• Obajana cement factory is the largest cement plant in sub-saharan Africa.
• Kogi is host to two large Iron ore companies, Itakpe and Ajaokuta.
• Ajaokuta steel company is the largest industrial complex in Africa.
• Odagbo has the largest coal deposit in Nigeria.
•Tourism
•Ajaokuta Steel
•Ibaji Oil Well
•Okobo, Okaba, Omelewu Coal
•Itakpe Iron ore
•Limestone at Itobe
•Gold at Yagba West etc.
• Lokoja is host to the two largest rivers in Nigeria.
• Lokoja was once the capital of Nigeria.
• The economy of Kabba province in colonial days was second only to that of Kano in Northern Nigeria.
• Kogi borders 9 states in Nigeria; more than any other state. It is the old Kabba province.
Lokoja, Kabba, Ajaokuta, Itakpe, Obajana, and Odagbo are all in Kogi state. Yet, Kogi is one of the poorest states in Nigeria. Is this state cursed or its just bad leadership? It's nothing shot of bad leadership. The time to act is NOW!
It is our believe that KOGI State must belong to the self-sustaining state; Engr. MUSA Wada offer to translate the viewpoint, values and needs of Kogi indigenes to core policies that serve a collective interest and guarantee equity at all levels.
To run a visionary and transparent community-based government driven only by the genuine aspirations of the state.
To create an effective, development-oriented administration that will harness and ensure prudent management of our collective resources to deliver value and improve the quality of life of our people.
We would ensure stability, civility, frugality, transparency, political tolerance, diverse views at all levels and public expenditure will be result-based and project-driven.
We would uphold the bond of performance between the government and its people, provide and deliver proactively through adaptive leadership, adequate, efficient and effective delivery of infrastructures.
We would promote the respect for the various branches and tiers of government and support the oversight responsibilities of the legislature, independence of the judiciary and the autonomy of the local government.
Local Government Elections in the state would be promptly conducted to introduce and support the grassroots and rural areas for more operational, self-supporting and self-accounting to enhance grassroots governance and development.
Our government shall put much energy in securing the lives and property of our people and State.
Job creation to keep our Youths active and productive, Women development and empowerment.
We would ensure that representation in government would reflect gender balance, equity, non-partisanship and based on clear merit.
KOGI is our home. Let us now turn it into the great State we know it can and should be.
Together, we shall build the KOGI of our dreams...
Thank you all.
Signed.
