Tribunal: Tribunal Orders Rerun Of Abia North As Orji Kalu’s Election Was Nullifies

 


The National and State Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal (Panel II) sitting in Umuahia, Abia State, Monday nullified the election of the Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

In a unanimous judgment read by a member of the panel, Justice P.C. Igwe, the tribunal held that the mandate that Kalu used in getting to the National Assembly was fraudulently obtained.

The tribunal ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct supplementary elections in eight wards in Arochukwu Local Government and several wards in Ohafia, Isuikwuato and Umunneochi Local Governments where election did not hold or votes were cancelled illegally.



Kalu was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 23 election.
The former Abia state governor is currently the Senate Chief Whip. Mao Ohuabunwa of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had challenged his victory at the tribunal.

Kogi Central: Oseni's Effort To Dismiss Ahmed Ogembe'S Petition Cannot Stand On The Ground The Cases Cited Lacks Substance, Tribunal Ends Final Written Address, Sets For Judgment.

The Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja, on Monday, ended the prejudgment proceeding on the consolidated petition by Natasha Akpoti of SDP and Ahmed Ogembe of PDP against Yakubu Oseni of APC. While defending his petition, the Counsel to Natasha Akpoti of SDP, Ayo Asala (SAN), adopted his final written address and the arguments therein. Asala (SAN) argued that the Counsel to the second and third Respondents (APC & Oseni) went against the judgment of the Appeal Court when they sought the relief of the Tribunal to dismiss Natasha Akpoti's petition for what they termed incompetency of the witnesses that presented the evidence gathered in the course of inspecting INEC materials used for the 2019 Kogi Central senatorial election.
